Edited and updated November 2017: I wrote this several years ago for my photography clients, and I wanted to update it for my coaching clients. I was working with one of my loveliest of coaching students today helping her prep a file for print. Ugh, proper canvas prep can be sooooo time-consuming. She told me that she had just been talking with another photographer about it recently who essentially said, “That’s why I don’t even mess with products; I just sell the digitals.”
If that’s the other photog’s business model and her clients are happy with that, great for her. But, YIKES, I think that’s such a disservice to photography clients. I firmly believe it’s my job to make the shoot as low stress as possible and the ordering and hanging of final products as easy as possible. Don’t you appreciate great customer service and NOT adding one more thing to your already long to-do list? I sure do. If you sign up for coaching with me, I’m going to teach you exactly how to provide this service to your clients so you’re both sublimely happy with the process from start to finish. xoxo
Happy Monday! My lovely friend is watching my two monkeys for me today so I can get some business work done. What do you do when you suddenly have a few hours of free time? I’ve finished my invoices, print ordering, email inquiries, and phone call returns, so I thought I’d write up a quick post about selling the digital files from my sessions.
“Do you sell the digital files?” is the number one question I’m asked from new inquiries. The short answer: yes. The long answer: I’ll try to talk you out of it. :)
1. Printing them becomes another to-do on your already too long list of things to do. The odds are high you won’t get to it until the kids are out of the house.
2. What if you want to order a gallery-wrapped canvas and there’s not enough material to wrap around? If you don’t have the software and knowledge to add material, it won’t look like what you wanted. Example:
Instead, choose your favorite images and spend the money on one or two big, beautiful pieces of art for your home. Here are some of my favorite examples from my clients’ homes.
Also, if you have digital files from pictures you’ve taken and need help printing products, I’m your gal. andrea.bacle@gmail.com or 508.768.5808
